A design constraint, not a statement of intent
Improving people's health does not justify the environmental damage caused to achieve it.
How we apply it
BioRegenis treats environmental sustainability as a design constraint. Processes have to be conceived, built and monitored so as to keep the planet clean, and the impact assessment enters while the choices are still reversible.
We do not publish environmental impact percentages until we hold measurements obtained with a declared, verifiable methodology. A number without a method is not information: it is an assertion.
As the programmes move towards production we will publish impact data together with the calculation method, the boundary considered and the reference period.
Where the assessment applies
At the design stage the variables we consider are five.
01
selection of solvents and raw materials
02
energy consumption of the processes
03
reduction of production waste
04
packaging materials and recyclability
05
end-of-life behaviour of the product
Digital programmes. For software programmes the relevant impact is that of computation. We account for it in how processing is designed and in the choice of infrastructure.
Hardware programmes. For biochips and devices the main themes are material consumption in prototyping, the useful life of components and end-of-life device management. They are assessed from the earliest architectural choices.
